To Whom It May Concern,
We have used Interpersonal Technology testing and training for the last four years. We have found it to be a very valuable resource in helping us evaluate new-hire candidates, team building, and coaching. I would recommend Interpersonal Technology without reservation.
Sincerely,

“We often judge others by their behavior. We usually judge ourselves by our intentions.”
In my experience, the above concept is often the root of conflict between individuals, which causes noise and distraction in a team environment. Although some conflict may be real, much is often the result of misperceiving an individual’s intent from their style of communication. One of the many benefits of the Interpersonal Technology (IT) program is the reduction of this type of noise and thus improved interpersonal team relationships. Below I will provide an explanation and describe my personal experience with how IT changed the course of my business to help me and my teams become successful.
As an example of this concept, an accounting manager’s tendency (preferred behavior) may be for an emotionless, linear presentation of brief, concise facts. In contrast, the sales manager’s style may be to convey passion in an elaborate option-rich display of a situation.
Naturally, in one-on-one setting, the accountant may perceive that the salesman doesn't respect their time -- and in turn the salesman perceives the accountant doesn't respect their capabilities. In the case where these individuals share positions on a common team, these dynamics can cause an ongoing undertow of conflict and the persistent distraction of perceived conflict.
Once you have experienced working with a team on Interpersonal Technology (IT), it is difficult to imagine leading a company or a team without it. By training individuals how to recognize innate tendencies both in themselves and in others, IT enables team members to differentiate between style traits and real conflict. As a result, communication channels are cleared and disruptions resulting from unnecessary interpersonal friction are minimized. This leaves the group to operate productively with efficient focus on objectives and the tasks at hand.
Below I will share my own personal example.
In the 90’s, I founded a software company as a mathematician and software visionary. The following is a story of how Interpersonal Technology helped me to break through my own “founder” limitations and grow our business to deliver our software in over 20 languages and across over 100 countries to roughly a million users worldwide.
My personal tendencies compel me to always seek many alternatives for the future and to thoroughly contemplate the various paths. In founding the company, my strength was software product vision – but NOT administering finances or running a business. By the turn of the century, we had grown into a multi-million dollar business and were on the brink of delivering our software internationally. I needed a CFO.
A year or two after bringing in a very capable CFO, tremendous conflict began to surface between myself and the CFO. I perceived him to be disrespectful because of the way we interacted one-on-one and in management team meetings. The feeling was mutual. Our Marketing VP had experience with Dr. Gwaltney and suggested he introduce our team to the Interpersonal Technology program – and our journey began.
After being trained on the various communication styles, the CFO and I were able to better discern a real objection from misperceived intent. The “look in the mirror” helped me to become more productive in not only my internal dealings but also with prospects, customers, and even the marketplace. We were getting so much out of it that we trained team after team so that everyone could enjoy the benefits of working in such an efficient setting.
Over time, team chemistry, morale, and overall employee engagement soared – resulting in a culture that made the company a very desirable place to work. Very few people left the company and many of our customers and partners clamored to work for us and with us.
In my opinion, the key to our culture was the Interpersonal Technology program. And our culture was the key to our success as an eventual global market leader in our segment of the software industry. As mentioned, after seeing it firsthand it’s hard to imagine running a company or leading a team without the application of the Interpersonal Technology program.

Jim Gwaltney's Interpersonal Technology seminars offer a remarkable opportunity for anyone seeking to improve their communication skills. Gwaltney's classes and one-on-one mentoring has equipped me with the tools necessary for understanding myself and my own personal tendencies as well as those around me. With this understanding I am better able to communicate and achieve mutually beneficial results for me and those with whom I work. The results from Gwaltney's teachings have been highly beneficial and his methods work.
It is with privilege that I recommend Gwaltney and his team to anyone needing to improve their communication skills.

As a manager for the Charles Machine Works, Inc., I have had the opportunity to work with Mentor Management in the application of its Interpersonal Technology system.
The solution set provided by the system is invaluable to any organization wishing to move its high performers to the next level, as well as improve the level of communication and understanding between team members, peers, and supervisor/subordinates.
The cultural and performance improvements have been very beneficial to The Charles Machine Works, as well as to me personally.
The Mentor/Mentee system utilized to assist bringing our high potential employees to the next level was not only beneficial to the participating employee, but also to the mentor and the manager of that employee.
Several years ago I participated in a personal development program, and feel this is the single most important aid to my career development.
I suspect most of our candidates for this program will be making the same claim at some point in their future.
Sincerely,
Mark Kiner

To Those Considering Interpersonal Technology:
The Value of Interpersonal Technology at Southern Union Company
For the past 20 years I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dr. James Gwaltney, President of MMi. Most recently he has taught me to facilitate the Interpersonal Technology program and how to successfully implement IT as a coaching tool.
Dr. Gwaltney has been a consultant at Panhandle Energy for many years. About 5 years ago, he was asked by the operating VPs to provide assistance to them in improving their communications during their staff meetings and in their daily interactions with each other. Dr. Gwaltney used his Interpersonal Technology program to accomplish this goal. Not only did their communications improve with each other, but a noticeable improvement was recognized in their interactions with their staffs, customers, and other executives within the organization.
Dr. Gwaltney's Interpersonal Technology method so profoundly affected these executives that they recently began to deliver the program to their direct reports and their staffs. To date, over 200 employees in the organization have received the Interpersonal Technology program with plans to deliver it to 20 more in the next 6 months. And we are just getting started. The initial feedback from the staff has been very positive, with comments such as "Everyone in the company should have this training" being very common.
Interpersonal Technology has been delivered to:
14 VPs Leading Panhandle Energy Pipelines
15 Operations Directors
24 Field Managers
55 New Managers in Frontline Leadership Development
6 IT Directors in a Mentoring Program
6 IT Managers in a Mentoring Program
40 Professional Technical Support Staff
I honestly believe this method can be not only career changing, but life changing, as the concepts and skills are transferable to relationships at home and in all interpersonal interactions outside the workplace.
